31 Km in 31 days - Swim Challenge!

Started a new challenge on October 1st.  31 kilometer of swim in the 31 days of the month.
Doing the challenge with some water polo boys that were on the national team.  These gentlemen are very good swimmers.  Kick butt!

That is a lot of swimming.  It never used to be.  Usually evening practice was about 5 km on average.  morning practice was between 3-5 km each also.

Started Wednesday Oct 2nd and did 2.5 km with the boys.  Had not swam for about a month before that and did not eat well that day.  So the swim was long and i had terrible energy.  my arms were useless in the water.
I learned my lesson  need to eat a lot more...and have been.  The rest of the swims have felt much better and getting some good kilometer in.
Up to 10 km now and on the 8th day of the month.

I am taking advice from Dory from the Disney movie Finding Nemo, "Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim."

Ready for your "Season"!

It is September now...the unofficial end of summer.  For most people that means the return.
The return to school, the return to work, the return to routine.  We have been on holidays or taking it easy for the last eight weeks and now it is back to it.
At the Club it was like someone hit a switch the day after labor day and the busyness tripled from one day to the next.
That means back to eating right, sleeping regular and back to fitness.  Took the summer off for regular goal orientated activity.  Now we are back to it.
time to set some quick goals and check in with any master goals that you set earlier on in the year and see how you are doing with those and where you are at.
whether you have been off track for the summer or just slightly out of sync when getting back into it consistence is the key.  Consistent workouts, eating well over all, and getting your rest you will be successful in your fitness goals.  That will also set you up for the rest of what life demands of you.

Remember that you have to Do Better to Be Better.
You have to work towards greatness to achieve greatness

Phrase (definition of the week)!

I am always trying to learn new things. Something as easy as a new word or phrase that I can use to expand my knowledge of the english language.

That being said here is the first phrase to add to your conversations. It is especially appropriate as it is the Calgary Stampede and people are partying like crazy all night long.

Social Jetlag (noun):
a type of jetlag (the feeling of being very tired after your body clock has been interrupted) which makes getting back to work harder after a long festive break, such as a holiday or weekend. Also know as the 'Mondays'.

Social jetlag occurs when our body's biological clock and our actual sleep schedules don't match up. During the week when we are working or at school we tend to be more regular and scheduled in our Monday - Thursday (and most of Friday) activities. Get up and go to bed at similar times.

By the time we get to the weekend or on holidays that schedule is forgotten. We get up later and stay up later. The Social Jetlag comes in upon the force of return to the regular or norm. I never sleep well on Sunday night to monday mornings because of the change in pattern during the weekend.
That is Social Jetlag.

New Family Member!

It has been a long time and things have been busy but so grand!
As you may know for those how have read past blog entries that i lost a Great Dane puppy named Ella Blu at the age of nine months.
After she had gone i knew i still wanted a Great Dane she was so sweet and I never had a change to enjoy how amazing the breed is.
Well 10 weeks ago i decided to start he process over again of seeing if there were any Dane puppies around.  And just as fast i found a breed.
Fast foward those weeks and today i have a new Great Dane puppy.  His name is Grantham.  He is named after the Earl of Grantham from my favourite show Downton Abbey.  He is a brilliant little pup.  Right now he is like a rock start.  Partying all night and sleeping most of the day.  Ben is teaching him all his great and vast knowledge.  Paris is teaching him that she is the boss.  Oh yes and there is the cat.  Well she is here too.
Stay turn for more puppy antics.

I'm Not Too Picky!

This has been the dreaded question for me from a couple people over the last months.  Are you too picky?  In reference to dating, being in a relationship and having a significant other (or lack there of).

So much pressure for them to be in a relationship and get married.  I feel great about myself and my life until someone says something like that.

Yes I would like to be in a relationship.  I see my family and my friends married and how happy they are and of course I want that.

However I do not want to be in a relationship just to be in one, just to say that I am not single is not worth it to me.

So to answer the question am i too picky.... well yes.  I know what i want.  It is a relationship that i want for the rest of my life.  I do not really want to try twice or three times or more for the long term.  Sure there will be smaller ones on the way to test the waters and see.  If it is not working there needs to be a change.  Why would i keep doing something that causes pain, hurt, stress, and anger in the long term just so i don't have the single attached to my name?  To me that just does not make sense and not worth all the trouble.

Someday I will find my someone that we will want to spend time together and share the rest of our time here on this lovely amazing planet but I am going to still enjoy my time and make the best of what I already have.
