Womens Trends Spring Summer 2010

Here is what has been stomping down the runways of the world. It should be filtering into the department stores now that Spring is here (though some may debate with the snow).

- The Trench! This is one of my favorites and is on the list of 10 essential items. If you do not already have one now is the season to get one. There will be a variety of colours, styles, patterns, fabrics, and lengths to choice from.
- Utility Jacket! A military inspired jacket usually identified with several pockets. Do not be afraid of making a good investment on this jacket, it goes with everything. Again this jacket will come in variably colours, patterns, and fabrics. Length will fall from the hip to above the knees.
- Leather! Leather anything is good. Leather pants, shorts, dresses, and shirts are coming. Anyone can have a leather jacket and will really make a sporty look very chic and sharp. Try and pick more earth tones when choosing you new leather goods, this season black is banished.
- The Natural Shades! These light Earthly neutral colors are light and airy. The trick to wearing these items is to go all out for texture and a strictly define silhouette.
- The Floating Dress! This is more a summer evening look. Light and airy even ethereal. Light fabrics like silk chiffon that float around the body down to the floor.
- Sport! This look looks FAST and sporty. A lot of variation in this style but just think a citified look with an adrenaline kick in the ASS.

Temp–O-BSSESSED!

Julie Nesrallah…need I say more. Every week day from 9 am – 1 pm I listen to CBC Radio 2. Yes I know I’m so sophisticated because I listen to the CBC. Tempo is a radio show, hosted by Julie Nesrallah, and is my latest addiction. LOVE IT! She play all the great Classical music of all time. Some stuff you have heard, some stuff you know, stuff you did not know that you knew and new (old) stuff too.

I will not have meetings during this time and people can only chat with me as long as I can still get my Tempo on. The only thing that comes between Tempo and I is I may workout (because looking fabulous is about the only better thing than Tempo and spending time with JNEZ). Don’t worry people if you are like me and have something in the middle of you Tempo show you can go online and do the time shift. Shift to the Pacific feed and then you catch that hour up and don’t miss a delicious sound.

I love the fact that every day there is a fun segment or theme. This helps keep my Classic education and enjoyment organized, let us get one thing straight I really do not know much about Classical music other then I know pieces I like and dislike but only when heard. I have been learning some pieces and I can put some names to the greats works. For the year of 2009 our challenge was to listen to all 104 (please let me know if that is right) of the Haydn Symphonies. No one could even talk to me if they were playing (sadly i did miss several). Current favourite segments are Friday’s Music that Rocked Your World, were we hear the pieces that really impacted others when they were first listened to, and Tempo Cinerama for Tuesday at the movies were we hear the pieces of cinematic scores.

Tempo is my very sweet obsession! You can hear it on CBC Radio to in Calgary at 102.1 FM or on line by clicking on TEMPO and follow the links the the radio feed. Keep it up Julie!

It’s the Legs that will Kill you!

It has been a while since a Look Better Naked entry

But not any longer. Today was legs day and as usual a killer workout, well even more so today then usual. I walked out of the gym with a Steak Ass and Tree Trunk Legs today! H U G E!

Today's workout: warm up on the bike for 10 min. All set of 3 reps 6 – 10. Power legs here should struggle for the last two. Likely need a spot for this workout. Percentage or body weight is the minimum to lift here, maybe for the first set and go up from there.

Sumo Squats 80 % body weight. Very wide squat gets more into the inter tights hams and glutes.

Wide stance dead lifts 135 % body weight. Great for the hams again and glutes and help strengthen the back along with it.

Standing calf raises. Do a weight that you can only crank out about 8 or 9. Calf strength varies so dramatically from person to person so just aim for failure not more then 10

Front Squats 85%. These squats keep more of the weight in the front on your legs (quads) but still great for legs in general.

Reverse leg curls on a decline bench. the straighter the legs the harder.

Interesting sights this week

A bald man blow drying his hair. Yes that is right. As i was leaving the change room at my gym there was a man a bald man blow drying his hair. I was scared that if he turned the speed up too much it will blow the rest of his hairs out. I guess he was not worried about that at all.

A man passed out on a pathway in a park. Walking back to my car after a lovely lunch with a good friend and he was laying in the middle of the path like daVinci’s Vitruvian Man (Adam it was not like a well build man like on you shoulder) he was a portly man fattish man. Gave him a little tap and nothing. He did not budge at all. So i did a good dead and called 911. Ambulance came and took his away. funny thought 911 was busy so i had to wait. What if they were dead because of the waiting?

All the season in one day. Now we are usually pretty used to this in Alberta but this day was a little crazier then normal. It was a very nice warm morning took the dog to the park in the sunshine. after about 1:30 pm the darkness came along with it a little bit of rain. Then a freak blizzard out of now where. It snowed so hard that every road sign was blasted with snow and ice. The whole city was shot point blank with a snow gun, continuously for 2 hours. The snow died down around 7 pm, the sky was still cloudy and dark. Then booming of the anger sky started. The clouds light up with the booming anger. Thunder and lightning in snow. That never happens (well almost never anyway).

Culture shock in my own home town

I ventured home over the Easter holiday to spend some time with my family.  It was a lovely couple of days but some very interesting times along with it.  Here is one of them.

Background information my town is a small town, just over 1,000 people live there.  I graduated with 27 kids in my class.

I arrived on Wednesday, you know for wing Wednesday of course.  My family had not been for a couple of weeks and during their time of absence from the pub it had changed management.  This tended to happen everyone 20 minutes.  There must be a list of Greek people that want to own manage a restaurant in a small town.  When one leaves the next ones are ready to go.  Anyway we arrived earlier then normal, we just wanted to have a quick family bit to eat before all the other people came to join the wing group.  My mom ordered a Greek salad and a beer, my dad, a Caesar salad and beer.  I ordered some kabobs and an Iced Tea.

My mom and dad got their orders pretty quick.  My dad’s salad was more like Caesar soup, i think that they forgot to dry the lettuce after they washed it.  My Iced tea arrived 30 minutes later, (must have been growing the tea leaves and harvesting the Sugar Cain) and my food was SLAMMED down in front of me another 15 minutes after that.  But we dare not say anything as it is a small town and that is the way pubs and restaurants work.  I ate my dinner quietly even though it was cold.

We finished up the meal as my folk’s friend were arriving for some wings and more beer.  Everyone sat down and ordered away.  They were spouting out wing flavours here and there.  Then it came to me, so i ask what kind of wing do you have.  The waitress looked at me and told me that they are all in the menu.  “Well then i will need a menu wont I!” i replied smiling of course because she had taken the menu’s before because we were taking too long to decide of food and others wanted to eat.

A few minute later she returned, “Could you show me where in the menu the flavours are listed?”  She stormed over to where i was sitting and grabbed the menu away from me and started reading it.  Well here is the problem, there were not listed in the menu, she looked over the pages, could not find it and left.  I still had not ordered any wings at this time.

She again retuned, i dare not ask another question but i did.  “What kind of hot sauce is on the wings?”  “I just take the orders i don’t cook them,” she informed me.  Well let us just say that I do not take well to being spoken to like that, and decided to play her game, “Then I order YOU to go to the kitchen and find out what kind of hot sauce is on the wings, and return to me.  I have allergies and there are only certain kinds I can eat.”  She turned to leave but some of the other people at the table also had questions so she heard, “while you are back there can you also find out…” for several of them.  It was a little funny.

She returned, it was 20 minutes later.  She had the answers to everyone's questions which was nice finally to know, mind you the attitude was very shall we say evident.  I decided to order some wings (they had the hot sauce that i like), Then i asked the the sass was extra.  She corrected me saying that extra sauce is extra money.  I corrected her and said, “Is the sass extra, because if it is I'm not paying for you to talk to me or anyone like that.”  She left hopefully to put my order in.

Another 30 minutes later I got my wings slammed down in front of me again.  They were pretty good but not worth the wait.  As I got my wings another couple arrived in the group.  They knew what they wanted to eat so they ordered before the waitress could get away from brining my food.  Now there was 12 of us at the table.  We were all eating, drinking and chatting.  Mostly chatting as she was very slow with the food and drinks.

45 minutes later still not food for the last couple.  We all looked around to try and locate our waitress but she was MIA.  We waited a few more minutes and still no where to be seen.  We went to the bar, not a soul.  One of the guys went to the back near the kitchen and was stopped by the new owner.  He explained the situation of some people have been waiting for over 45 minutes for their food and we could not find our waitress.

The guy returned and the owner made his wife and his food for fee and to go.  Suddenly our server appeared again.  She come over to the couple that had been waiting for their food and told them that she did put the order in, and notice it was taking awhile.  The lady was very upset that it took so long, “Yes well you could have check up on it for us, that would be the proper thing to do as our waitress since you notice we were waiting.”

Well let say that she did not get much of a tip.  Just shocking to me that she has a job serving people.  YIKES!
